The format-war of the new millennium has finally come to the conclusion: Toshiba has decided to abandon the HD DVD and Blu-Ray format officially becomes the winner, as was indeed expected. The decline of HD DVD (which only supported himself through a number of studios and lower price of the players) became evident when, just before CES, Warner Bros decided to support only the rival , unsettling the few remaining exclusive to Toshiba. Sales down, studios decivano of children who changed sides, and the prospect of a recovery was increasingly distant. Few days ago, the formal decision to abandon the Toshiba DVD'HD, followed by the inevitable decision to Universal and Paramount switching to Blu-Ray.
Toshiba prepares to face huge economic losses, blaming the bad luck, saying that theirs was still the best format and questioning the actual victory of Blu-Ray, given the looming threat of digital downloads (as if they were not supposed to deal with it, right?).
Now some say that it is Blu-Ray vs. DVD (VHS against DVD as it was long ago), some say that it is Blu-Ray against digital downloads. The fact is that Blu-Ray defeated main enemy, and the market Hollywood can finally hope for a recovery in sales, has prevented this war. The fact is that anyone who bought an HD DVD player (stand-alone or add all'Xbox360) took a good rip-off, while those who chose a Blu-Ray (or a PS3, as recommended by me) seems to have done the right choice.
